Purdue "Recycles" Student Furniture, Electronics, Etc.

Apparently, when students leave their university and college residence halls they tend to leave a lot of "junk" that ends up in landfills. Melissa Gruver oversees civic engagement and leadership development for Purdue. Every year she directs the Project Move Out  program that collects unwanted items and redistributes it to local agencies that benefit the needy.  This year they were able to collect 48,299 pounds of left over student materials. This includes 141 futons, 92 refrigerators, 57 microwaves, and 9 televisions.

This type of recycling is excellent in my opinion. It reminds me of the way that Ecologic Furniture uses recycled materials and eco-friendly manufacturing techniques to produce durable and stylish student furniture for university residential life housing.
